AN EEL'S APPETITE.
RAVAGES AMONG TROUT. An interesting photograph of two trout in an excellent state of preservation "is in the possession of Mr. C. I. Dasent, of Wellington. These two fish, one ; 10in. long and the other 9|in., were found in the 'stomach of :., an ':,eel 181b. in weight, caught in the Marigatairioka River. The eel's stomach .also contained two other trout about the same size,' hut : were partly digested, and could" not. be photographed. -' ' ' Another photograph in the . possession of Mr. Dasent shows an eel 351b. in weight caught in the Karori Stream, arid which must have ;in its day -Consumed thousands of fish. While on the subject of eels. Mr. Dasent said that soma time ago the: curator at Master tori was rearing 500 fry, and was astonished one day to find that they had -all disappeared. v Some time later he discovered "an" eel of some 241b. weight f which was full of' iryi; from the mouth to the tail. \',\
