GUNMEN AT CONFERENCE

The business was being gone on with when suddenly 'it was interrupted by the entrance of four gunmen carrying revolvers. The strangers at once ordered everyone in the hall, including the press reporters, to put up their hands. The gunmen, who were rebels, then said they had heard that one of their number had been executed that morning, and they asked if certain members of the Dail Eireann were present. Six names were read..out to the County Council delegates, who replied that none of the men mentioned was present in the ball. The gunmen called for proof, and allowed each delegate in turn to "lower his right hand for the purpose of getting out papers showing his identity. When ,tho gunmen had satisfied themselves 'that none of the six members of the Dail they wanted was in the building', they withdrew, after apologising for interrupting the. business.
