STATE WITNESSES THREATENE RETRACTION OR DEATH. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Jen. 11. Four of the witnesses called by the State in the trial of miners arising out of the massacre of strike-breakers at Herrinin June last," have received warnings that if they do not retract the statements they made in the witness box they will be killed. - '■'■ Witnesses for the defence,testified' that Otis Clark, one of the accused, urged the mob not to use violence against the captured mine guards. The' witnesses said that Clark declared that if the men were killed it would be the worst thing that had ever happened to the United Mine Workers of America, and he declined to , participate in any way in any attack on the guards.
