In the match between Miss' Macfarlane and Mrs. Lascelles, play in the second set was very close, there being only one point difference in tho total. In the doubles, nine games went by before Mrs. Scott Watson and Miss How« notched one, but with a little support the younger player would have made a fight of it. Mrs. Scott Watson was very unsteady. The other match developed into a competition between two volleyers and two baseliners and, save at the end of the second set, the issue was never in doubt, Miss Lloyd's net play and Miss Gray's hurricane drives crushing the opposition. Mrs. Hodges gave Miss Macfarlane little support at the end. The combination of the New Zealand ladies was never up to that of their opponents. The second series of matches takes place to-morrow. The draw is as follows: — Miss Lance v. Miss Macfarlane, Mrs. Lascelles v. M""--. Scott Watson, Miss Gray v. Mrs. Hodges, Miss Lloyd v. Miss Howe; Miss Lance and Mrs. Lascelles v.
