TAURANGA POWER SCHEME.
FLOTATION OF LOAN. £90,000 TO BE EXPENDED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUEANGA. : Thursday. Last month the borough ratepayers sanctioned a proposal to borrow £90,000 for the further development of the electricity scheme by harnessing McLaren's Falls and increasing the supply of current, so as to serve the numerous dairyfarms in the neighbourhood of Tauranga and to meet the requirements of industries. The Mayor, Mr. B. Dive, proceeded to Wellington last week with a view to raising this loan, and also another loan of £3250 for the purchase of the show grounds as a recreation area. A telegram has been received stating that Mr. Dive's mission has been successful, but the source from which the money is being obtained is not disclosed. Now that the money is available, the Borough Council intends, to commence initial work immediately in connection with the scheme and it is anticipated that the works, when in working order, will provide employment for many men.
