CRUISE OF ADVENTURE.

AMARYLLIS AT PENANG. | A TRYING EXPERIENCE, j Particulars of the faring of the 29-ton English yawl-rigged yacht Amaryllis., which left Auckland last April for England, are contained in a letter received vesterdav bv an Auckland resident from Lieutenant G. H. P. Mublhaaser, R.X.R.. owner and master of the little vessel. Writing from Penan?, under date December 4.'lieutenant Muhlhauser says: — "We left Singapore on November 23, and the passage up was all that it should not be—fiat calms, thunder, lightning, rain and strong head winds. We had to beat the whole of the way, and it took us six days and a-half. Off the One Fathom Lighthouse a heavy squall came up at night, and we had to strio the Amaryllis to mainsail and jib. With the ' Aroa islands and rocks under the lee we could \ not run; nor with the Blenheim and j other shoals to windward could we heave id so we had to go on a reach for clear I water. 1 ; 'The Amaryllis is simply wonderful i | v.hen the air is •full of trouble, and she j behaved magnificently, as she always [ does. The squall, which "was fierce, lasted I I' does. an hour, and then the fierce, lasted ( about an hour, and then the air cleared. 1 and we found ourselves close to a large I steamer, lying stopped, apparently wait- \ J ing for a sight of the lighthouse. The J very kindest welcome has been extended j Ito us here. We leave about December ] j 15 for Sabang and the Nicohars." j
