- HALF-CASTE STOREKEEPER. ' SEQUEL TO ASSIGNMENT; I The first ' meeting' of -creditors- in the ) bankrupt estate of Te Tana Stewart, a r half-caste Maori, formerly in business as a - storekeeper at-Putaruru, was held yesterday at the office of the official assignee, Mr. : . W. S. Fisher. : It was stated that in March, 1919, bank- ■ rupt assigned all his store assets to creditors, but as it was his intention to r pay all his creel tors in Cull tho usual "rer lease" . clause was not included in the deed. A dividend of 5s in the £ was ' paid in October", 1919. and a second of the I same amount in April, 1920. Last month Stewart was adjudged bankrupt on a creditor's petition, but as the notice of this was sent to Putaruru instead of Tau- " marunui, where he is now residing, it - was thought possible he had not received Mr. Blomfield, who appeared for bankrupt, said that when there, was prev-ously talk of bankruptcy proceedings Stewart stated that he.had given all his assets to • the creditors and thought he might have J been treated a little more leniently. ' An adjournment was made until it riday, * January 19.
