AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUCKLAND CARNIVALS.
With the close of the holidays, and the American athletes in active competition in the Dominion, interest is again being concentrated on amateur athletics. The Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association announces carnivals on February- 3 and February 24, at which the Americans, and probably E. W. Carr, the great Sydney runner," will compete. Nominations close on Thursday, January 25, at 5 p.m. In addition to inviting Carr to compete in Auckland, the centre is also extending invitations to several Southern champions, including H. E. Wilson and L. A. Tracey, «of Wellington. Should Wilson and Krogness contest the 120 yds. and 220 yds. hurdling events, and Kirksey, Carr, Tracey and - Davidson ' the 100 yds. and 220 yds. North New Zealand championships, the events should prove memorable. Merchant's hammer-throw-ing also should prove an attraction. The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, with a strong committee, has taken a new lease of life, and promises, to get rid of its few remaining liabilities at an early date. Commencing in a fortnight, the club will enter upon a series of weekly evening meetings, at which running, cycling, walking and field events will be decided.
