Gifford, as the Auckland defender of the Sanders Memorial Cup,'-which was; unanimously decided upon last' month by, %he selectors ' appointed/ by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, was confirmed by the association last evening. Mr. 3, B. Johnston presided - The contest for the , cup will commence on January 80. Nominations were received last evening I from Otago, Southland, Wellington, and Canterbury, the boats •nominated being:—Otago, Winifred;,- Southland, Murihiku: Wellington. Eynin; and- Canterbury, Linnet. ;.:■.;;: ;- './///, '■■- :■, It was decided that the selection of the crew for the Rons, be left to, Mr. Gifford., with a recommendation that ne center wivn the selectors. Though'there were only two of such boats at present .; it was felt that the number would be' increased in. the near future.
