AUCKLAND CARNIVAL.

FESTIVITIES IN MARCH.

ORGANISER APPOINTED.

Arrangements for the week carnival to be held under the auspices of the Auckland Advertising Club, with the object' of advertising the city and province, were advanced a stage at a meeting of those interested held last evening in the club s .•ooms, Strand Arcade. M". George Fowlds presided over a large attendance. It was decided to open the festivities on the evening of March 17 and extend them throughout the following week, concluding on Saturday, March 24. Theopening "date being St. Patrick's Day, it was agreed, out of consideration for the portion of the community which annuaily makes holiday upon that day, not to have any counter-attraction until the evening. A draft programme was approved subject to alterations. This provided for onen-air band concerts; entertainments in the Town Hall (including a masked fancy-dress poster bail, boxing and wrestling tournaments, and . a concluding crowning of the carnival queen ceremony) ; tennis amd bowling tournaments; harbour excursions; jazz dances in Shortland Street; concerts and dance_ recitals a swimming carnival; an open-air vaudeville performance; ai children's day in the Domain ; athletic sports; a Venetian water carnival on the harbour; a floral fete and battle of flowers; and other attractions. Suggestions were made for several supplementary features, _ and a spirit of enthusiasm prevailed which promised well for the result of the effort. Sub-committees were appointed to manage the various items on the programme. After the general meeting the executive met and appointed Mr. Martin Dunne orgamiser for the carnival. There were over 20 applications for the position.
