A PRISONER'S OFFENCE.
WARDER FALSELY ACCUSED
SEVEN DAYS BREAD AND WATER.
A sentence of seven days on bread and water was passed yesterday on Harola Alexander Stewart, a prisoner in Mount Eden goal, for an aggravated prison offence. The case came, before Mr. \V. It. McKean, S.M.: in the gaol. The prisoner was charged with having made a false and frivolous complaint against H. W.-Glynn, the principal warder. Ac-, cused stated' that this warder had assaulted him, and he lodged his complaint on September 28 last. H. W. Glynn stated that on the occasion of the alleged _ assault he, in company with another ' warder, took the prisoner to the cells to undergo a sentence of three days' bread and water for violent conduct. Stewart asked for a light, a request which was refused. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M.. investigated the case last month and then dismissed the charge as false and frivolous. The magistrate found that the charge against the principal warder had ' not I been sustained, and passed sentence as ■ recorded above.
