WELCOME TO EVANGELIST.
A public welcomo was accorded at the Y.M.C.A. last evening to Dr. R E. Oliver and party, who arrived from Vancouver yesterday. Dr. Oliver is commencing a series' of gospel campaigns in New Zealand. The gathering was a large one, and was representative of the various sections of the Christian Church of the city. Mr. R. A. Laidlaw presided. Addresses of welcome were delivered by the chairman and several other speakers Dr. Oliver, in responding, stated that it was his desire to honour the Bible as the word of the living God. Many pulpits, schools and universities were making shipwreck of the faith of thousands of young people by diluting the gospel and teaching them to laugh at its golden truthß.
