James, of Dunedin, and Mr. R p" Lynch, of Wellington, are at Cargen.' ' Dr. M. J. Brodie, Roman Catholic Biahop of Christchurch, left for the South by the Main Trunk express last evening, Mr. A. N. Barraud,' of Palmerstoa North, has been admitted to a private hospital, where he is lying seriously "ill with pleurisy and pneumonia, Mr. J. F. Robieson, tourist agent at Dunedi.i, is on an official tour of the Otago tourist resorts in anticipation of heavy tourist traffic this season Mr. Robert Campbell, superintendent engineer of naval work for New South Wales, has been appointed harbour engi. neer to carry out the large construction works at Gisborne. Mr. K. S. Williams, M.P., who w&j !,everely injured in a motor accident near Gisborne recently, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. It is .anticipated he will be about again in a fe w weeks' time. The Hon. J. W. Fortescuo, mentioned in yesterday's cable news as having received an affront from the American Secretairy for War, was at ono time well known in New Zealand, having lived here for some years as private (secretary to Sir William Jervois, then Governor of the colony. Mr. H. P. Donald, who has been pnu moted to be chief postmaster at Timara has left Blenheim to take up his nee duties, Mr. Donald will be relieved temporarily by Mr. A. E. Shelton. The new postmaster will be Mr. F. W. Craigsenior supervisor of telegraphs at Wang* mii. Mr. Craig commenced his career in the post office at Blenheim. Mr. James Stewart, of Christchwchi has been appointed general manager of the Fjast Coast Freezing Works at Wha'.-atane. Mr. Stewart has had wide experience in the business. He was formerly secretary and business manager " of the South Otago Freezing Company; and was general manazer of the North Canterbury Sheep-farmers' Co-operative Freezing Works at Kaiapoi for five years. He left the latter position last year.
