A number of Wanganui residents **" - tended the racing carnival in Christchnrch and Bome who stayed at home were rather smartly duped by some person. According to the accounta a local resident, who is a keen follower of racing, happened to be at Christchurch and he was evidently known to somebody who saw an opportunity to secure sure " dividends. This unknown person, therefore used tha Wanganui resident's name, and sent telegrams to the tatter's intimate friendsIn each instance he telegraphed for a " tenner." One person replied immediately with £20, another with £15, and a third with £10. Then came a further request to one of the trio for another £10, this time from the Wanganui resident himself, who had suddenly found himself short of cash after a few days racing. He was very surprised when he received instead of the cash a telegram as follows : " Come home, you< old He has since come home, and now he n busy endeavouring to ascertain the name of the person who used his name to extract so much ready cash from his friends.
