DELEGATES DELAYED.
PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY,/ SOUTH ISLAND MEMBERS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] CHBISTCHURCH, Monday. The stoppage of the ferry service will seriously inconvenience the majority of South Island delegates to the Presbyterian Assembly of New Zealand, which opens at Auckland on Wednesday morning. Half of the Presbyterian ministers in the South Island and numbers of laymen had intended going to the assembly, and most of them had booked their passages to leave to-night. A few went North on Friday evening, but the remainder will be held back unless they avail themselves of the opportunity of making the trip by motor-car and launch to f Wellington. The sittings of the assembly will continue fully a fortnight, and hopes are entertained that the trouble will be overcome in sufficient time to enable the South Island delegates to be present before it concludes. It is not considered probable that the assembly -will be postponed on account of the inability of South Island delegates to attend the opening.
