Considerable time was occupied at the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday in discussing the matter of a site for the new wharf to be erected in conjunction with the railway works now in progress. The matter was before the board at its previous meeting and as a result of the discussion which then took place, the Tauranga Cliamber of Commerce decided to send a deputation to the Harbour Board to urge that the work of wharf construction be pushed on as rapidly as possible on the site near the Monmouth Redoubt. A deputation waited upon the board yesterday afternoon, the speakers being Messrs. B. C, Bobbins, J. Murdoch and F. N. Christian. A letter was also read from the chairman of the To'Pu'ko Town Board, Mr. H. 0. Coonuy, asking that the board should also hear a Te Puke deputation. It was decided to hear tho Te Puke deputation at the next meeting. The question was further debated by the board, and a motion was passed requesting the board's engineer, Mr. Blair Mason, to visit Tauranga at the fcarliest opportunity and prepare information on the question of the wharf site and the cost of construction and dredging; also to report on the construction and cost of a suitable wharf to meet the requirement! of shipping at the Mount.
