GUILTY OF SMUGGLING.
WELLINGTON PROSECUTIONS [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. Albert Thurlow, chief steward of the steamer Las Vegas, was charged to-day with smuggling 17 pairs of ladies' boots and shoes and two pairs of stockings. Harry Edward Callaghan, pantryman on the Las Vegas, was charged with attempting to smuggie 8400 cigarettes. Both ploaded guilty, but stated they liad no intention of smuggling, as they were taking the goods to friends and relatives. Mr. Page, S.M., imposed a formal fine of £100 in each case, and then reduced it to £25,
