CHAMPIONSHIPS AT SOUTHLAND.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rowing; Association*was held in Wellington, Mr. E. E. Innes presided.

The chairman said there were unusually bright prospects for the season. Tho (act that four more clubs bad registered and the ?;ood work among junior clubs •were promising eatures. The* future possibilities of overseas contests should not be neglected- There were applications for the championship regatta from Wanganui, Southland, and Marlborough. In favour of WanKanui it -was pointed out that the course had great advan ta-gos, and regattas there, had proved a success. As far as the principle of rotation was it was said, had first claim, as *ince 1890 Picton had had the honour nine times, Wellington five. Christchurch, Wanganui, Auckland* and Dunedin three- times each, Nelson 1 once, and Napier once. The course would be at Bluff. There were four or live active clubs there, and at Dunedin and Oamaru there were also live clubs. The Picton course also found advocates. The vote wae for Southland by a large maiority, New Year's Day being the date chosen. The intftr-provincial fours was allocated to Wellington. The election of officers resulted.—President, Mr. A. W. Morgan (Southland): vicepresidents, Messrs. J. E. Widdop (Wellington) and W. J. Wilson (Otago); council, Messrs. J. N. Barnes, E. Diehl. E- E. Innes, G. Lauchland, B. A. Marria, D. R. Menzies. and B. W. McVilly; hon. secretary and treaHurerr Mr. A. D. Bayfield j auditor, Mr. G. C. Fache. It was decided that rule 18 be amended to provide for the giving of coats, caps, and badges to the winners of inter-provincial four*, distinctive badges to be decided unon iby the association, and awards to be retrospective. Auckland and Canterbury are I previous winners.
