LABOUR PROCESSION.

Thj eight-hour-day celebrations were held in fine weather. The usual procession was witnessed by many thousands, but it was not equal to previous efforts, only a rsinall number of unionists participating.
UNEMPLOYED WOSKEItS BILL,
CARRIED BY MEANS OF GAG. BRISBANE, Oct. 2. By means of a "gag" the Government carried the Unemployed Workers Bill through the House of Assembly, the Premier exercising a proxy vote for fee Home Secretary, A number of members of the Opposition left the chamber as a protest against the gag and the proxy voting. The measure is popularly known as the " Loafers' Paradise Bill/ .FEDERAL INCOME TAX. LEVY ON • COMPANIES' PROFITS. MELBOURNE, Oct. 2. The Federal Treasurer, Mr. S. M. Bruce, announced that the Government had decided to exempt bonus on shares trom income tax. and bad also decided to tax company profits at the aource, instead vf v&en in the haaib o£ shareholders.
