DECREASE IN THE REVENUE. EXPENDITURE ALSO LOWER. ECONOMIES IN DEFENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrisht A. and N.Z LONDON, Oct. 1. The quarter's revenue decreased by £43,255,000 compared with 1921. The decreases included excess profits tax. £9.950,000, excise £8,051,000, customs £3,632,000, postal service £1,450,000, and special receipts from the sale of Avar stores £27,109,000. The increases include income tax £4,774,000, estate duties £4,014,000, telephones £1,400,000. The revenue for six months totalled £403,893,000, a decrease of £52,269,000, and the expenditure £447,423,000, a decrease of £150,570,000, of whic* the Civil Services accounted for £69,155,000, the Army, Nacy, aiTd Air Fdwe £40,060,000,
and interest on war debts £31,751,000.
