Keen disappointment prevails among the New South Wales players at the sudden turn of events. The New Zealand League advised the managers at Napier on Saturday that the Southern tour had been abandoned. The manager of the team immediately cabled to the New South Wales League acquainting it of the position, and received instructions that if the New Zealand League was unable to carry out the original tour to return by the first boat. Seen to-day in Wellington, where he had arrived by motor from Napier to arrange for the team'u return to Sydney, Mr. Schofield, joint manager, stated that New South Wales was agreeable that the team- should continue its tour, but it was forced to return to Sydney by Thursday's boat owing to the New Zealand League failing to carry out the original plans. A ground at Dunedin was available for a Becond test. They had depended on the New Zealand League sending down several Auckland players to reinforce the New Zealand team. No New South Wales men were available owing to injuries. Several players were suffering from pus poisoning, occasioned by injuries on certain grounds. The team would, not return to play more matches a,t Auckland.
