FISHING SEASON OPENS.
REPORTS FROM WAIKATO.
FISH IN GOOD CONDITION.

HAMILTON. Monday.
For the opening of the fishing season the streams were clear, and several parties who went out yesterday report fine sport, the fish being in good condition. 'Che average of the catcheii reported 'was between l£lb. and 21b. Messrs. S. Tisdale and M. Randrup, fishing in the Okoroire, had great success, landing about 20 nice fish.
WHAKATANE KIVERS. GOOD SPORT SECURED. [BY TELEGBAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHAKATANE. Monday. The trout-fishing season in this district opened yesterday, and fishermen could be seen all along the various rivers. Apparently the favour'te haunts were the Wakatane and Waimana Rivers. •Generally good sport was obtained, and th« first outing of the season is regarded as a great success. a One fishing party m two reported having obtained 12 good fish from the Whakatane River, ranging from l£lb. to 51b., the average being about 2Jlb. Another resident of Whakatane succeeded in landing five fish in a little over an hour, the largest being 4Jlb. Several other parties also met with a fair measure of success at Taneatua. Mr. T. Alexander succeeded in landing 10 and Mr. G. Biddle 16 fishMost of the anglers here fished with the minnow and spoon, but several used the salmon fly. Wtih the latter, Mr, J. Peebles obtained a fine 51b. fish.
The good condition of all the treat landed is causing great satisfaction among sportsmen, and many have taken out licenses.
