STOCKS AND SHAKES.

The tone of the Auckland sharemarket remained unaltered yesterday, a fair amount of business being transacted. There was inquiry for the majority of Government' stocks, a sale being effected in Inscribed Stock, 1938, at £96, other buyers offering £95, sellers £96 10s. In banks Nationals htd buyers at £5 18s 6d, sellers £6. Business was done in NewSouth Wales at £34 15s, other buyers offering £34 sh, late sellers £35 10s. There Were buyers of New Zealands at 54s 3d, sellers 555. In insurances Nationals, I quoted at 67s 6d, had buyers at 65s M. New Zealands, wanted at 275, w\>re quoted at 28s 3d. A sale was effected in South British at 34s 9d, the closing quotations being buyers 34s 6d, sellers 35s 3d. In gas there were transactions in Auckl&nds (paid up) at 23s and 23s 3d. In shipping there was inquiry for Huddart-Parkers (ord.) at 495, sellers 49s 9d. In miscellaneous lines New Zealand Milk Products sold at 225, and Wilsons Cement at 19s 9d. In mining business was confined to Waihi Grand Junctions, several sales taking place at 9s Id, with late sellers at that price and buyers at 8s 10s. Waihis were wanted at 27s 9d, sellers 28s fid. Moanataiaris were in demand at 3b Id, la,te sellers quoting 3s 2d.
