EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
COMMITTEES TO CONFER.
A meeting of the Auckland advisory committee of the British Empire Exhibition was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. J- A. C. Allum presiding. The Minister in charge of the Department of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. E. P. Lee, wrote intimating that as soon as advisory committees had been formed in the other chief centres of the Dominion a conference was to bo held in Wellington with the object of making proper arrangements for New Zealand's representation at the exhibition. A proposal has been made to send an orchestra to Britain for the exhibition at a cost of £10.000. This will be considered at the coming conference. It is suggested that the money required should be raised by pubHc subscription on a population tasis. Auckland's quota being set down at £32C0. The promoters consider the body of instrumentalists chosen should be under military control and attached to some recognised unit, The proposition is vhat the hand of the Third (Auckland) Mounted Rifles should be sent. Another scheme mooted is that a Now Zealand restaurant, which should use only Dominion products, should form part of this country's display at the exhibition. These matters will also be considered at the conference.
