TE AROHA NEWS.
DREDGING OF RIVERS. [BY TELEGRATII. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA. Wednesday. The mild rainn that, have fallen during the past two days will be much appreciated by dairymen, for pastures were in need of a good drenching rain. An assurance has been received by the local Chamber of Commerce, through Sir William Hemes, M.P., that some work will be done in the Waihou River to ensure cargo transport as far upstream a3 Te Aroha during the coming summer. During his visit to Wellington » few days ago. the Mayor, Mr. R. Coulter, gave evidence before the Local Bills Committee when it was considering the Thames Harbour Amending Bill. Mr. Coulter claimed that the harbour scheme should be reported upon by a board of expert engineers before heavy expenditure is incurred: also that as the Waihou River improvement works were not yet completed the country districts should know exactly what that work will cost them before being compelled to vote upon the harbour scheme. Mr. Conlter also contended that the present time is not an opportune one to go upon the market for heavy loan moneys.
