(Eecd. 3.12 p.m.» NEW YOEK, Sept. 25. i A message from Marion, Illinois, states . that 41 men, indicted for murder of 'rari- , oub degrees, in connection with the j Herrin massacre, were arraigned to-day. 1 Thirty-three were released on boncfe vary- < ing from 5000 to 20,000 dollars. Eight j were held without bond. Two others \ indicted for murder have net yet been j apprehended. The men held ' without bail were < designated ring-leaders by the grand jury, j Only one is of foreign birth. The others ( are of old American families. Townsmen, J of the indicted men supplied the bail, 1 which totalled mora than 3,000,000 dollars. f Union officials canvassed all business men, declaring that now was the time for them . to show whather they were for or against . the union. The prosecuting attorney asked that ; the trial should be fixed for October I, but j counsel for the union moved to have the trial in February on the ground that- more than 500 witnesses must be lollected. ! Af considerable number of the 214- men indicted on various charges, have not yet surrendered themselves, btit the union has promised that all will give themselves up.
