GENERAL ELECTION.
CHRISTCHURCH RECENT A fBT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT-] V CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. It is now improbable that the Eefonn Party will nominate a candidate for the Christehurch North seat at the general election. During the week-cmd developments have. taken place which promise that the interests of the Rjform voters in the district will not be prejudiced by leaving the contest to Mr. L. M. Isitt, M.P., and the Rev. J. K. Archer (Labour). MR. ISITT'S ATTITUDE. NO TRUCK WITH EXTREMISTS. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. When questioned to-day regarding the report that he would not be opposed by a v Reform- candidate in Christehurch North at the coming election, Mr. Isitt, M.P., said lie had nothing to say on the matter. "Naturally," he said ; 'I was very interested to see the paragraph. It seemed to me the sane thing for any party to do, which did not wish to see the strength of the extreme Labour Party increased. So far as my position is concerned, it has always been absolutely definite that while I am a Liberal, and, of course, would rejoice if my party were in power, with a definite majority, I am absolutely opposed to its assuming power at the mercy of a majority vote created by the support of extreme Labour. Mr. Holland has boasted that he would p»t the Reform Party out and tbo Liberals in, and that if the Liberals did not do as he wanted, he would put them out. He would never be assisted in such a scheme by any action of mine." THE AVON CONTEST. A LADY CANDIDATE. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. Mrs. H. F. Herbert, the well-known social worker, has consented to contest the Avon seat at the general election as an Independent.
