WAR MEMORIAL MUSEUM.

PUBLIC APPEAL FOR FUNDS. PRELIMINARY CANVASS. ' All the architects who submitted designs for the' Auckland War Memorial Museum, have been notified as to the results of the recent, competition The circular posted to the designers overseas, as well as in New Zealand, includes the, names and addresses of all the authors of designs, and copy of the unanimous report and finding of the jury of award. The prize money has not yet been distributed. It is explained by the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, as chairman of the Citizens' Committee, that when the awards were confirmed it was decided to refer all the other* recommendations of the jury of award to the committee for consideration. These included the question of appointing the Auckland winners of the first prize of £650 as architects for the construction of the building outlined in their design. The matter of appointing an architect, however, cannot possibly be considered with a view to decision until the necessary funds for the project are in hand. The Citizens' Committee is engaged upon the preparatory arrangements for a canvass of possible donors before the f;eneral appeal ia made. There will be a urthor meeting of the committee next Wednesday afternoon. A letter of thanks was sent to Messrs. C. Reginald Ford, of Wanganui, and C. W. Wood, of Christchurch, who have returned South, for their valuable services as professional members of the jury of award. The other members of the jury have also been cordially thanked.
