AUSTRALIAN AVIATION.

COMMERCIAL PURPOSES. A SECOND MAIL SERVICE. [from our own correspondent.] SYDNEY, Sept. 20. A revival of commercial aviation seems to be taking place in New South Wales, the latest development being the use of tho aeroplane for the purpose of commercial travelling. A year ago one firm sent its salesmen on their way by air, but the venture seemed to die out. A business tour of tho country districts of the State is now being instituted, a syndicate of airmen having investigated the possibilities and received sufficient support. The tour projected is one in which the flyers are to carry samples of various articles of trade and book orders in a six-weeks' period. Picture films to be screened in the towns visited are part of the equipment. The development of aerial mail services is also progressing. Next week the second aerial mail service will be inaugurated between Queensland and the Northern Territory. Armstrong Whitworth machines have been secured, and these will be used until Vickers aeroplanes are available. Still a third purpose.for which the use of the aeroplane is attracting attention in Australia at the moment, is its utilisation by Captain Frank Hurley, the well-known explorer and photographer, as a means of access to some/ of the regions of Papua and the mandated territory of New Guinea, which have never hitherto been investigated.
