<Bec<L 6-5 p.m.) GENEVA. Sept. 9. At a meeting of the Health Committee of the L>»gue of Nations on Friday an effort was made under the cover of the menace of the Russian epidemics to transform the present voluntary health organisation into a permanent salaried * department. Colonel John Ward (Britain), Sir Joseph Cook, Sir James Allen, and Mrs. Dale opposed the proposal, which after at strenuous argument was defeated on the ground that the voluntary organisation had been satisfactory in the past and another salaried department was unnecessary.
DRUG TRAFFIC CONTROL.
UNIFORM SYSTEM URGED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Eecd- 6.5 p.m.) LONDON. Sept. 8. Sir Mark Sheldon and Mrs. Dale attended the League of Nations committee on social problems, which agreed to urge on all Governments, including Australia and New Zealand, the immediate adoption of the import and export certificates system as the most practical means of exercising control over traffic in opium, cocaine, and other dangerous drugs.

Bell, and Mr. Boyce; Economic, Colonel Campion (Australia); Health, Sir J. Cook, Sir J. Allen, and Mrs. Dale.
