At a meeting of the County Council held yesterday the secretary of the Kaimai branch of the Farmers' Union wrote drawing attention to the bad state of the Kaimai Road from Ruahihi Bridge to the top of McLaren's Hill. It was at the meeting that the road had been torn to pieces by motor traffic. The letter was referred to the engineer. The Minister for Public Works wrote acknowledging the receipt of a letter forwarding a resolution of the council asking that the vote of £1000 appearing on the 192122 Public Works Estimates for the Ohauiti-Otawa No. 1 block be transferred to the erection of the Kerikeri Bridge £600, and metalling a portion of the Tauranga-Te Puke Road £500. The Minister stated that he would give the request every consideration when the Estimates are being prepared. It was decided that the engineer reply asking that the money bo made immediately available for expenditure. The secretary of the Tauranga Hospital Board wrote asking the average loss for the past three years on rates uncollected on native lands in the district. The clerk had replied, giving the total for the three years as £467 18s 7d. The council agreed to the closing of the road between land owned by the Hospital Board and the land the" board proposes acquiring from Mr. E. Crowley, and that the road be vested in the Hospital Board. Tt was decided that the balance of tho To Puke Riding loan, amounting to £929, be expended, and that contracts be called for the work. The engineer was authorised to Uike steps for the creation of a special rating area in a portion of the Katikati Riding so that a loan may be raised to erect a new bridge over the stream m that locality. A motion was passed recommending the Hospital Board to maintain the hospital at Te Puke.
