QUAY STREET RAILWAY.

TRAFFIC BLOCKAGE DENIED. AN ACCIDENTAL DELAY. The Railway Department takes exception to tho statement in the "report submitted to the City Council meeting last week that on more than one occasion lately the department had blocked all the traffic in Quay Street East for periods of 10 and IS minutes at one time, "The department is not aware," states tho district traffic manager, "of the alleged blockage of traffic by its shunting trains. On one occasion recently the city traffic inspector reported that Quay Street' had been blocked for a quarter of an hour. .On this occasion a shuftt was being made from the railway yard to King's Wharf with trucks loadocl with timber. The engine failed to take the load round the curve in tho railway line and stalled on the roadway. Another engine was immediately sent for and removed the railway vehicles. This occurred during the usual dinner hour, when there was very little, if any, wheeled traffic on the roadway. The road was not wholly obstructed, .because road vehicles had access past the train by going round tho en* of it. It is not correct that raili way vehicles block all the traffio in tho thoroughfare for periods of 10 and 15 minutes." j ' =
