DEFENCE DISPENSARY.

THE AUCKLAND TRANSFER.

[By TELEGRAPTT. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. " Were the dispensing business and the medical stocks 'held by the Defence Department in Auckland transferred to the private business of a local chemist, and if so, by what process was the transfer, made?" was a question asked by Mr. Clutha Mackenzie (Auckland East) several days ago, and answered by the Minister for Defence in the House to-day. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes said it had been found that the expense of the continuation of the garrison dispensary in Auckland City was not warranted owing to tne large decreaye in the number of service patients requiring medicine. To meet the. needs, however, of the few remaining service patients, arrangements were made for a lecal chemist to supply medicinal requirements on the authority of the pensions medical officer. The chemist concerned was chosen after full consideration had been given to the question by the pensions medical officer and tne military medien] stocks were transferred to this chemist on payment at valuation rates.
