It is estimated that the cost of the extension, together with equipment for the new section service, will bo anproximatcly £75,000.
the ten new tramway cars recently ordered for the service will not be in commission for quite six months. Tho first shipment of part of the order is expected at Auckland in January. Then the work of .assembling the parts and installing the motors will bo put in hand at the departmchts workshops. This work will take a month or two to complete. Considerable organisation is now going forward respecting time-tables, the running of extra services on special occasions, and the improvement of tracks and general equipment. There has been a keen demand for employment in the service, which is extending steadily, and it has been found necessary to placard the entrance to the chief offices with a notice that there are no vacancies.
