WATERFRONT RAILWAY
T HE PROPOSED EXTENSION.
PREPARATION OF THE ROUTE
WORK TO BE COMMENCED,
/ . It is stated by officials of the Auckland Harbour Board that the work of extending the Quay Street railway to the Western Wharf will bo carried eut. Plans for the work arc complete, and the preliminary work will soon be started. This is the reclamation of a small area at the launch landing stages, which will be removed to new sites, several of these being a little further out in the ferry steamers' basin. The object of this work is to provide better railway access to the Prince's Wharf, the existing ground being too limited for the purpose. Further to the west tho gap between the small vessels' wharf beyond Hobson Street and tho Western Wharf will be bridged by a concrete viaduct, 32ft. in width, with a railway track. In tho centre a bridge-way. 50ft. in length, will be provided to permit of small vessels making use as at present of the shallow basin. The work is set down for construction in the early future.
