EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
As a result of the Empire exhibition mission to New Zealand the scope, purpose and possibilities of the great fair are generally realised and an excellent plan of organisation has been put into operation. With committees in each of the provincial districts, working with the Government for a common end, the Dominion's pavilion should not be unworthy of the country. The financial difficulties of the moment naturally must rule out extravagant ideas which a desire to excel might stimulate, but a recovery in trade would make it possible for the present plan to be extended in some directions. In the meantime the extent of the Government's undertaking requires that the local organisations should set about their task without delay. . The New Zealand pavilion and all that it contains must represent mature thought. The exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity ' of showing the natural, resources of the country and its products; The result should be the attraction of population and of capital, but the more artistically these material appeals are made the more pride New Zealanders will have in their effort. An excellent suggestion is that of establishing in the building a restaurant in which the food will be almost entirely the products of the Dominion. Another is the screening of a New Zealand picture which, if well done, would be of the greatest value from the tourist point of view. No doubt consideration will be given to the question of sending a troupe of Maoris to the exhibition and establishing a model pa in the pavilion. Such a venture could be made to pay for itself and would give individuality and charm to the whole display.
