OBITUARY.

COLONIST FOR 82 YEARS, MR. CHARLES V. HILL ,'£| An old colonist, Mr. Charles Viner Hill, died at bis residence, Captain Street, Onehunga, yesterday, aged 84. Bern it "'y' ' Surry Hills, near Sydney, New South: Wales, Mr. Hill had lived in Auckland for 82 years, he and his parents having 5; come from Sydney with Captain Hoteon, New Zealand's first Governor, ia' 1840, ,H arriving at Auckland in the barque, Anna Watson in September, 1340, wh«r> the vessel brought the Governor and party • • from Russell to the new capital. Mr. Hill's father was one of the mechanics brought from Sydney by the Governor. '; .. For 22 years Sir. Bull was emploved on the One Tree Hill estate, under the late Sir John Logan Campbell, and for 1?' v years was in charge of the Auckland ": ; Racing Club's course at Ell erslie, retiring '; about 11 years ago. He took an active ? part in local affairs, being for rainy V years a member of the Onehunga. ' Council, and a director of the Onehunga [ - \ Land Society. ROBERT MITCHELL. - Mr. Robert Mitchell, who died at hall Road, Devonport, on Friday night, at the i&ge of 67, was well knowfl is Auckland business circles.
