MAUNGANUI'S FAST TRIP

'FRISCO TO WELLINGTON. GAINING A DAY ON TIMETABLE. The conversion" of the Royal Mail steamer Maunganui from a coal to an oil burner is proving a success, and has enabled her to put up some fast steaming. The vessel sailed from San Francisco for Wellington and Sydney on August 4, and was due at Wellington on Saturday, but according to advice received by the Union Company she is picking up a day cn the trip, and will arrive at Wellington on Friday. Owing to her early arrival she is now timed to leave Wellington for Sydney on Saturday instead of Monday, and consequently will reach. Sydney two days ahead of scheduled time. Tho Maunganui has a large English and American mail for New Zealand, a total of 1153 bags. Should she reach Wellington early on Friday morning the Auckland portion of her mail will arrive here on Saturday. ___________
