WAR HERO REWARDED.

ROTARIANS' PROMPT ACTION , Practical sympathy with a hero was shown when Sergeant Alyin York; the Tennessee mountaineer, was presented ■with the deeds of his I fine 40-acre farm on Wolf Biver, Fentress . County, near Pall Mall. York is the man who captured single* handed, a battalion of, German infantry, and won for himself from Marshal Foch, the title of " the greatest hero of the war." I Wken York returned to America in | 1919 he refused all offers to appear on ] the stage or for the film> and comI mercialise what ho called; "an: act 1 of God. 1 ' He stated that ho had decided to ' spend the remainder of his life in trying : to educate the people. When he armed .in Tennessee thd Eotariana started a subscription to buy a, farm fo* hjml near Pall Mall. Several; thousand dollars w*re raised, and the farm was height, leaving 13,000 dollars .unpaid. It was expected that the sergeant would be able to pay off the remainder with the crops he would raise- He was badly hit,'however* by /the-drought of ; last year, and the deflation in price re- • duced" the yield of his corn crop.
