TROUBLE IN NOVA SCOTIA

Tn a clash between pickets posted by striking coalminers at Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and volunteers to man the pumps, several persons were injured. The strikers were victorious, and the mine officiate were compelled to work the pumps.

The Dominion Minister for Defence, Mr. G. P. Graham, sent a detachment of several hundred troops to the scene of tho disturbance upon the request of the mine officials.

The Minister for Labour, Mr. J. Murdoch, has telegraphed to Mr. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of America, asking him to appeal to the Nova Scotia strikers to return to the pumpt\ and continue negotiations with the Empire Steel Corporation, which owns the mines. The strike occurred on Monday, following reduction of wages, and appeared to be of insignificant proportions . until the miners deserted the pumps.
