—*— VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The twenty-first annual meeting of the 1 Victoria Cruising Club was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, ' presiding over a large attendance. The annual leport stated that the year had been a rcord one for the club. The membership was now over 700. The racing had been both keen and interesting. During the reason eight fixtures were held, seven for racing and one for the annual picnic, and all were most enjoyable. Tho club social room was completed, and was free of debt. The balancu-sheet revealed a very sound financial position. The assets were valued at nearly £1000, and there were no liabilities. Mr. Gunson congratulated the club on ' the report, which, he said, spoke volumes for the vitality of the club, the membership of which had increased from 75 to > 750 in 21 years. Referring to the increase in the popularity of the motorboat, he said he was glad to see the club was mainly composed of yachtsmen, for he was a strong supporter of yachts, without having anything against launches. The present generation owed much to the yachting enthusiasts of tho past, and it should he their aim to clo the same for the yachtsmen of the future. Rule 8, which deals with nominations, was amended to read that nominations : should close 48 hours before the meeting, instead of 18 hours, as at present. The following life members were elected I unanimously: Messrs. J. Francis, E. ; Griffiths. P. Hickson, W. J. Matthews, B. | Smith. E. Tuohey, and W. Tupp. The clubhouse captain, Mr. E. Daunton, ' after thanking members for voting him an < honorarium of £15, handed it over to the | Roll of Honour fund. A tribute was paid to the staunch.support rendered by the late Mr. J. Boonstra. Mr. G. Dervan donated a cup as a j memorial, and the question of a suitable memorial, in conjunction with Mr. Dervan's offer, was referred to the committee. The following resolution, submitted : from a special meeting, was carried: — "That this meeting affirms the principle to inaugurate a fund, to be known as the boat accident fund, and created by voluntary contributions from boat-owners participating in club races, and requests the committee to take into consideration the advisability of propounding a. feasible proposition for the approval of competitors in club races." The election of officers resulted as follows :-~Patron, Mr. E. H. Davis (reelected) ; president, Mr. W. L, Casey (reelected) ; commodore, Mr. T. L. Thompson (re-elected)"; vice-commodore, Mr. L. Tercel; rear-commodore, Mr. G. Parker; secretary, Mr. G. Mobberley (re-elected); treasurer, Mr. P. Hickson (re-elected); assistant clubhouse captains, Messrs. W. Hawkes and T. Graydon; auditors, Messrs. A. V. Swales and , 0. Johnson; trustee, Mr. G. Mobberley; delegates to the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association, Messrs. P. Boonstra and A. Deacon; official measurers, launches Messrs. J. Turner and A; V. Swales, yachts Messrs. G. Parker and A. Tobin: 'hon. solicitor, Mr. G. F, Marshall White ; general committee, Messrs. A. Deacon, P. Boonstra, T. J. Culhane, W. Hawkes, G. Honor, E. Griffiths, C. Madigan, E. Montgomery, A. Lewis. F. Tercel, A. Tobin, G. Tylcoafc. The election of clubhouse captain was deferred. ;■■".,■ i'-i
