FRENCH WELTER-WEIGHT.
NEW CHAMPION ANNOUNCED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) PARIS. Aug. 14. Francois Charles, tho French welterweight boxing champion, having exceeded the weight limit, has resigned his title, and, in accordance with French rules, has designated Paul Brevieres his successor.
DEMPSEY AND BRENNAN. TO MEET ON SEPTEMBER 4. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Aug. 14. A message from Michigan City, Indiana, says that though the State Governor previously announced that; he would not permit the Dempsey-Brennan fight on September 4, apparently the ban has been •withdrawn. Mr. Kearns announced that the fight is certain to take place. Both men are now in training.
