THEFT FROM MOTOR-CAR.

TWO MONTHS* IMPRISONMENT.

The theft of a rug, valued £2, from a motor-car was the charge preferred against Arthur Simpson, aged 28, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S-M. The rug was valued at £2. J . William Ban: said he saw accused in an hotel bar with the rug. Accused tried to cut off the tag on which the owner's name was written, but witness prevented him. Kenneth Bloomfield said the rug was his and he had left it in his motor-car. Accused had no authority to remove it. Accused contended that he bought the rug from a man who wanted some money to take him to Mercer. The magistrate said he could not believe accused's story, which was praotically the same as that told in reply to a previous charge, oft which accused was found guilty. A nentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed, the rug to be returned to the owner.

MISCELLANEOUS CASES. A charge of vagrancy was preferred against William Jackson, who was stated to be over 80 years of age. The police evidence showed that he had been found sleeping on a section in Federal Street. Accused bad stated that he could not get a. bod anywhere. The magistrate said he did not want to deprive the old man of his pension by convicting him, and he therefore discharged him. A breach of the terms of his probation order was the charge against Edward Owen Millward, aged 27, who was placed on probation in March, 1921, on two charges of theft. Senior-Sergeant Rawle said that accused had not made a report since last October. Accused said he had paid ail the money he owed. He was convicted and discharged.
