CIVIL WAR IN IRELAND.

For many years the Attckland Weekly News has be<m noted, for the excellence of its interesting illustrations, and in today's issue the high standard of the pictorial section in well maintained.

A striking double-page is devoted to actual photographs of the fierce fighting which raged in Dublin during the last three days of June, conveying a vivid impression of the Irish capital's anxious time of death and violence. The rebel forces entrenched themselves in the cellars of the Four Courts buildings, and other strongholds in the heart of the city, from which they were routed only after an artillery bombardment, and sharp hand-to-hand fighting. The pictures show the Free State troops bombarding the rebel positions, and the Four Courts and other splendid buildings, immediately after their evacuation.

Photographs of the funeral of FieldMarshal Sir Henry Wilson, who was buried at St. Paul's Cathedral on June 26, portray clearlv tha solemn ceremony which attended the passing of a _ great soldier, foully assassinated outside his own home in London. Interesting pictures, too, are those of Cashel, the historic town in South-western Ireland, with its adjacent famous assemblage of ruins, where recent fighting between the Irish rebels and Free State troops is reported to have taken place. Thf Main Trunk train sensation, caused by the derailment of last Friday's express at Drury, is well covered, a. good series of photographs showing how a great calamity was narrowly averted. ' The frontispiece, an excellent reproduction of the latast portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, in Court robes, makes a striking picture. Sport is well catered for in two full pages, one of which deals with incidents in the first test match between the " All Blacks" and New South Wales, while the other is devoted _to snapshots of last week's racing at Christchurch, featuring the New Zealand Grand National "meeting and the Metropolitan trots. Among other items of topical.interest are the King reviewing the Atlantic fleet, the latest development in the kauri gum industry in the North Auckland' trict, the cars of the young at the Auckland' Hospital, and the unveiling of a war memorial at Wakefield, Nelson.
