MOTORING ACCIDENTS.
TWO MEN BADLY INJURED.
NORTH SHORE SENSATION.
MACHINE PARTLY WRECKED.
A serious motor-car accident occurred in Vauxhall Road, Devonport, at, about ten o'clock on Saturday evening, as a result of which two young men, Mr. Justin Graham and Mr. Jack Boylan, sustained severe injuries. The two other occupants of the ear, Mr. Thomas Baxter and Mr. Ray Middleton, escaped with a shaking. The party left the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Narrow Neck, where a danoe was being held, and proceeded in the, motor-car along Vauxhall Road in the direction of Takapuna. The car, which was driven by Mr. Baxter, descended the hill leading to the Narrow Neck Beach, apparently at a fast pace, and crashed into an electric light pole at the foot of the decline. '
The axle cap of a front wheel struck the post firs;,, and the back portion of the car was swung round and crashed against, the post with great force. All the occupants were thrown out. Mr. Graham and Mr. Boylan, who were sitting in the back seat, were rendered unconscious, while Mr. Baxter and Mr. Middleton were dazed and shaken.
Constable Mallabond happened to be in tho vicinity and he was on the scene in two or three minutes! Medical aid was summoned and Drs. C. M. Bout and L. K. Hagen arrived quickly. It was found that Mr. Graham's right thigh had: been fractured in two places and that hisi left leg had also been broken. He was con-* veyed to a private hospital. Mr. Boylan, who was found to be suffering from severe concussion of the brain and scalp wounds, was taken to his home. At a late hour last, evening both men were reported to be progressing as well as could oe expected'. The car was very much damaged, tne nea.r portion being smashed into rr.atchwood.
