CONTROL OF TRAFFIC.
INDICATORS NOT FAVOURED. OBJECTIONS , BY MOTORISTS The new traffic indicators at street intersections were discussed by the committee of the Auckland Automobile Association last evening. A correspondent wrote maintaining that the indicators did not perform the desired work, and they were really death traps, as the same signal applied to two lots of traffic. He had seen, several narrow escapes from accidents, and it was high time to remove the unsatisfactory system of traffic control and revert to the hand control system. This latter scheme was in use in England and on the Continent, Several members said they had noticed the dangerous nature of the signals, but the trouble with the hand system was that every policeman had a different style of hand signalling. In London the system was different from that here, two policemen controlling street corner traffic. Mr. W. Coltman said he thought the City Council was quite willing to listen to any recommendations made. Such suggestions, however, should be well. thought ont. The matter war. referred to the by-law.-t committee for a report.
