At a largely attended and representative meeting of Government- supporters in the Manawatu electorate the candidature of Mr. Joseph Linklater was confirmed. It was decided to tender Mr. Edward Newman a farewell banqu«t, to which the Prime Minister and other members of the Cabinet will be invited.

Shortland, solicitor, of Tauranga, has announced that he will con toe t the Wakatipu scat at the general election as an Independent candidate. INVERGAEGILL SEAT. THE LABOUR CANDIDATE. Mr. H. J. Fcarrant has been selected as the Labour candidate for Invercargill, and has consented to stand. THE AWARTJA SEAT. OPPOSITION CANDIDATE. [BT TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, Tuosday. Mr. P. A. Delaperrolle, chairman of the Southland Education Board, has decided to contest the Awarua seat in the Liberal interests.
