PRICES IN BRITAIN.

FURTHER RSSE IN HAY. For the third successive month, the level of wholesale prices in England a* May 31, showed an advance, according to the Statist's compilation. The lowest point was reachud in February, when th« index showed an increase of 55.5 per cent, above that for 1913; the index Jo* May was 59.4 per cent, above the prewar level. Increasing food prices were responsible for the advance* in March and April, btifc in May there was a decline in the food groups, the advance being in the three sections of the materials categoiy—minerals, textiles, and sundry materials. Textiles were most prominent. in the movement, with a general advance of 4.1 per cent. Cotton, jute, and wool (Lincoln hogs) wers the commodities responsible for the increase. Flax, hemp, Australian wool, and silk went to lowet levels. All the commodities in the minerals group rose in value, with the exception of iron bars, which remained unchanged. Hides;, linseed, nitrate of soda, and leather in the snndry materials OTonp, were quoted hieher, :saHow, palm oil, and timber declined.
