GIFT TO PRINCESS MARY.
LETTER OF APPRECIATION. A copy of a letter of thanks from -Princess Mary to the Red Cross Workers and V.AD.'s of the Empire for their wedding present has been received by Mr. W. Rattray, secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, from Lady Jellicoe. Princess Mary's letter, which was forwarded to Her Excellency by Lady Ampthill, the prime mover in the presentation, is as follows: —"I am deeply touched at the beautiful present which has been given to me this morning on behalf of the V.A.D. members from all over the Empire on the occasion of my approaching marriage. Please tell them how grateful I am and how much I shall always value this generous gift as tho expression of the affectionate good wishes of the service to which I am so proud to belong." Lady Ampthili's covering letter states that the. gift took the form of a diamond and emerald tiara, and that a deputation, in which the Dominions were represented, went to Buckingham Palace on February 13, ilnd presented the gift to Her Royal Highness," who was deeply touched by the gift. The total subscribed toward the present by New Zealand was £11 10s.
