HUDDERSFIELD'S PASSAGE.

THE MYSTERY DEEPENED. The three mat-ted schooner Huddersfield, which arrived at Auckland on Thursday from Clarence River, left Sydney "two days after the Manurewa. Captain H. C. Bowden, master oi the Huddersfield, states that when his vessel left Sydney the wind was light from the north-east, these conditions having also prevailed when the Manurewa isailed. Later in tho day, howevor, the wind changed tx> the south and the Huddersfield made 100 miles in the direction of Clarence River before it changed back to the north-east. This delayed the schooner, which took six days from Sydney to Clarence River. A fortnight w.vi occupied in loading and during that time the wind was for sorno days blowing from the southward, long enough to have enabled the Manurewa to reach Clarence River had she been blown to the south after leaving Sydney. The weather was noti stormv up till the departure of tho Huddersfield from Clarence River on April 27, and she experienced tine weather until well clear of the coast and then strong baffling winds, which drove her to the northward and prolonged the parage lo Auckland. Captain Bowden said he did not see any trace of the Manurewa niid ;he weather he experienced fron. Sydney makes the delay to the Manurewa more of a. mystery. According to the Sydney records the following are the names and addresses of I thos.j on board the Manurewa who j belong to New Zealand : — I Captain R. G. Holmes, master and part J owner, Manukau Road, Epsom; L. G. i Peek, second mate, 27, Amiru Road, ' Auckland: K. Littlejoiin, able seaman, i 31, Hamilton Road, Wellington ; D. M. !
